Ups and Downs of Homeownership

The past two days have been so awesome, yet so terribly awful.

Good news first.

My dad let us borrow his mower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We desperately needed to mow our lawn. We practically had a prairie growing in our backyard. And the weeds. Oh my goodness, the weeds. And the dead flowers. Clearly, we really suck at any sort of landscaping. I've been reading about how to get rid of the weeds and will need to put those tricks to work VERY SOON. And I've also gotten really good advice about the flowers - I just need the motivation to get rid of all the dead stuff to keep the healthy stuff thriving. Not quite sure how to do that but it'll happen. And the lawn just needed a good mowing. So, you can imagine my excitement that after a solid month of no lawn mower, we were obtaining a lawn mower. Thank you, dad, from relieving us from having to buy a new one for the time being. That's the goal but I'd rather get one on sale!

Here are some photos of my mowing adventure this afternoon. Good grief, it was difficult. Gary, fortunately or unfortnately, was there to capture it all.

Thanks, honey bear :)

And the bad news you ask?

We've got mice. Yep. Mouse turds gave it away. As Gary was on his way to Strawberry Village to pick up the mower, I discovered a number of little mice droppings on our counters. I didn't see them anywhere but there so I was pretty confident it was just one mouse. I broke the news at work today and much to my dismay, heard some really scary stories of rodent infestation. I was still convinced we had only one mouse to contend with until some further inspection of our kitchen. I'm not so convinced anymore. Poor Gary had to deal with my complete and utter disappointment and frustrations but I'm okay now. It certainly sucks, but we HAVE to get rid of these mice. I have no appetite knowing they're scurrying around in our kitchen and other rooms. They need to go so I can get a solid meal. Beer isn't going to cut it. Our goal is to seal any cracks in our foundation so no others can get in and trap the ones that have already gotten inside.

Crazy Bizaro Day

I have had the most bizarre day ever. I mean seriously.

I woke up this morning at 3:30am. I went to the bathroom like normal, was hot like normal, crawled back into bed like normal. Not normal? Not falling back asleep. I tried for about an hour to fall back in to dream land to no avail. I gave up soon after and retreated downstairs thinking the a/c might help. Did it? Absolutely not. Again, I gave up and turned on FNL. I thought maybe since I'd seen each episode so many times that I'd fall asleep. Did I? Absolutely not. Perhaps I should have put Gilmore Girls in. That ALWAYS puts me to sleep. By about 6am, I realized that I'd very soon become hungry so I brought a pot of water to boil so I could have me some goulash. SO very good in the AM. Lunch at 6am? Yes please.

Then, my semi annoying morning turned crazy. Gary and I leave the house without any keys. or car keys. We bickered for a few minutes, "are you kidding?" "No." "You're kidding, aren't you." "No sweetie, I'm not kidding." "You're kidding me." Yeah, that went on for about 2 minutes. We finally realized that nope, we were not getting back in to that house and we pulled out the spare key to the car. That rinky dinky key is annoying. I could barely start the car. I drove Gary off to work and set off to the medical center itching to call the local locksmith. I told him that we both left our brains at home. Perhaps it was my foggy brain to blame.

Then, my semi annoying crazy day turned bizaro. I had already moved past this, but we had a massive colon blow up display at the winn county fair last week. Today was the day we were to clean it. So shortly after 8am, I head over to the other parking lot to start scrubbing down this massive colon. I couldn't stop giggling.

The rest of the day went by so very darn fast. I had to race home to relock our door with our own keys and then head to the hotel by 1:30 for an interview. That was successful and then it was time for data entry. I then headed over to Albert's where we were SLAMMED the entire time we were open. Awesome because before I knew it, it was 9pm. Was I tired at this point? Not a all. Probably because I ate my weight in hershey's kisses. Besides my lunch at 6am, that was it. Also bizarre. How could I not eat all day? Beats the heck out of me.

An now, sitting here at 11:49pm, I'm still not tired. So I'll keep drinking this beer to help me fall asleep.

Crazy bizaro day!

You will never guess!

Gary and I are doing something for the very first time in our entire 7 year relationship of knowing each other.....

What is it you ask?

Using the internet on two separate computers at the VERY SAME TIME, of course!!

This is monumental.

Gary cried.
I laughed.

We just couldn't hide our emotions for this one.

In other news, moving has been amazing. We are getting used to a new place and all the little oddities with owning a home. Like acquiring a lot of old and almost-out-of-commission appliances or all the pretty, pretty flowers surrounding our home and garage. Yes, we've made plans to upgrade our appliances and have pretty much killed those pretty, pretty flowers. Who knew you were supposed to water those things? Crazy, I know but we are not flower people. But flower people we will become. We've been tag teaming this whole watering thing but with only a rinsed out milk and juice container, it's an intersting task. We need to get a hose, I know. Along with a trash bin, lawn mower, fan, tv, entertainment center....the list goes on. One thing we've checked off the list? A desk. We'll soon have a desk delivered to our door so that we may finally put away the lovely little mess we've got building in our office area. See below :)

I know, it's a hot mess. Give it time :)
Mom and dad were so kind to provide us with a beautiful new dining room table, now that they have a new one! It looks so nice in our space. We've said we love it at least a few times since they dropped it off yesterday. Thank you so very much!

Lastly, I'm gearing up for a fun weekend in Las Vegas. Kendra's bachelorette party is just around the corner and I could not be more excited. It's been way too long since we've actually hung out and it will be so nice to celebrate her marriage in such a fun place. We've got so many fun things planned. Look for pictures next week!
